The Fire Is Us

Wildfire Communication Through Data Visualization

Designed an educational infographic exploring the relationships among wildfire, climate, ecosystems, and human land management. Applied principles of information design, visual hierarchy, and science communication to synthesize research into an accessible visual narrative. The project examines the ecological role of fire, explores the historical suppression of many Indigenous cultural burning practices, and contrasts them with contemporary prescribed burning as a land management strategy. Through maps, illustrations, and data visualizations, the infographic promotes a broader understanding of wildfire resilience, ecosystem stewardship, and informed environmental decision-making.

Designed interactive data visualizations using Flourish to transform complex datasets into engaging, web-based experiences. Collected publicly available datasets from Canadian and U.S. sources, organized and prepared the data in Microsoft Excel, and developed interactive visualizations that communicate trends, patterns, and relationships. Applied principles of visual hierarchy, graphic design, and data storytelling to create interactive charts, maps, and animations that encourage exploration while improving the accessibility and communication of data for diverse audiences. Published and integrated interactive visualizations into a Wix website to enhance user engagement and online accessibility.
